Retired Posts: 338 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Stephenville, TX | Did you know that you could use deep links to go directly to pages you want to view?I was testing some changes to the left hand menu in the front page a few months ago when I got a call from the DFWREIN Investor Center that a person was not able to log onto the DFWREIN forums. I figured I knew what the problem was, but I called the person in trouble on the phone to verify things.Sure enough, this person was coming to the front page each time she wanted to enter the forum and then navigating her way to the pages she wanted. She would have to load 4 pages of information and click through links to get where she ultimately wanted to be. I asked her a few more questions and she revealed that she would only look for new posts since the last time she logged in and that it was frustrating because she couldn't always remember what she read before. So I asked her, Why not create a bookmark on your Favorites menu which goes directly to a page that lists all new forum messages since your last logged in? The silence which ensued was deafening. She didn't ask me what the Favorites menu was so I was spared that explanation. No, the first thing she said was, "You can do that?" To which I replied by rolling my eyes, shaking my head and saying, "Yes, ma'am." I'm sure glad she couldn't see me. You can add any search to the Favorites menu by first going to the Search Form and designing your search. Once you have the search result you want you can add it to your Favorites menu. To bookmark the search, Right-Click on the page background and click on the Add to Favorites option. (Or, if your menus are visible, click on the Favorites menu and then click on Add to Favorites option.) Follow the instructions from the browser to get it into just the right place. Then go the Favorites menu and select the new link. Why use searches for your Favorites?Searches change over time. As new posts are added to the forums, the search result will change. So the resulting page will always be up to date. Here are are searches I thought you might find useful. (Right-Click on the link and click on the Add to Favorites option.)

Retired Posts: 338 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Stephenville, TX | I added a link to user profiles to search for all posts by a user. You can access user profiles by clicking on a Username link in posts or on the forum summary pages. While you are in a thread, like you are now, Usernames are changed to real names, if the user added a real name to their profile. For exampe, in the upper left corner of this post there is a link for Charles K. Clarkson. In other areas it is listed as Webmaster. It's all me though. If you click on one of those links and scroll down to the All posts by Charles K. Clarkson link. You should see a list of all the threads I have posted to in all the forums you have access to. You can right-click on that link and add it to your favorites. My posts are a great cure for insomnia. HTH, | ||
